Central Iowa Works (CIW), an initiative of United Way of Central Iowa developed an analysis of the retail sector in central Iowa that includes the Des Moines metro area, this combines elements of rural and urban populations into one geographic region and provides a unique perspective on both types of communities. Using this analysis, CIW focuses on challenges in recruitment, retention, and career advancement opportunities. Together through the CIW Retail Partnership employers, workforce development partners and retail workers develop and implement strategies to improve recruiting, retaining, and advancing front line workers.
CIW is a member of the National Fund for Workforce Solutions’ national network and is one of three local partners working with employers, educators and community leaders to expand opportunities in retail and adjacent sectors.
